The upcoming revolution Archive
The end of four centuries of capitalism?
444 years ago, the Low Countries rebelled against their Spanish oppressor. Free citizens, free state, free market. 200 years later, Schiller glorified the Dutch spirit in De opstand der Nederlanden (The revolt of The Low Countries). The German theatre group Andcompany and the Flemish director Joachim Robbrechts refresh our memories in the play Der Kommende Aufstand. A debate in the context of this work: will the credit crunch bring an end to four centuries of capitalism? Will the Netherlands point the way towards neoliberalism this time around? More information about this debate will follow.
