Flagey, Heilig Kruisplein, 1050 Brussels
This year deBuren will present four programmes in which Dutch- and French-speaking authors will take turns in presenting a Radio Book. The third will take place on 5th June, when new stories will be read by the actress, director and writer Hilde Van Mieghem and by Jean-Luc Outers, who apart from being a writer is also director of the Service de la Promotion des Lettres at the Ministry of the French Community.
Hilde Van Mieghem made her acting debut in Hugo Claus' play Vrijdag in 1981. She immediately became well known for her performances in films such as De Leeuw Van Vlaanderen, Shades and Alias. She also acted in the famous TV serial Moeder, Waarom Leven Wij? Seven years after her short film De Suikerpot, Van Mieghem made her definitive breakthrough as a director and scriptwriter with De Kus, a drama with her actress daughter Marie Vinck. In 2006 she directed her second feature film, Dennis van Rita.
Jean-Luc Outers (b. 1949) was born in Brussels. His father is Lucien Outers, who, amongst other things, is a former minister and a mayor of Oudergem. Outers made his debut in 1987 with the publication of his novel L'ordre du jour by Gallimard. The book has been translated into various languages and has been filmed. Since 1987 he has published five other novels, Corps de métier (1992, Prix Victor Rossel), La place du mort (1995), La compagnie des eaux (2001), Le bureau de l'heure (2004) and Le voyage de Luca (2007). Jean-Luc Outers has been head of the Service de la Promotion des Lettres at the Ministry of the French Community in Brussels since 1990.
