On 1 October, Radio Nederland Wereldomroep (the Dutch world service) will be broadcasting from the Flemish-Dutch House deBuren. The occasion for this 'location broadcast' of the programme Hollands Diep is the 175th anniversary of Belgium. The public is welcome to attend.
Host Wim Vriezen will be talking with five guests from the Northern and Southern Low Countries about the history of Belgium and its relations with the Netherlands. To what extent is it possible to say anything about the future of Belgium? Among the guests will be the former Belgian politician and NAVO president Willy Claes, the historian Els Witte and the chronicler Hugo Camps. The audience will also be asked to voice their opinions. The discussion will be interspersed with live performances of music rooted in Belgian culture and history.
Hollands Diep is a weekly radio programme that steers clear from the issues of the day and instead gives room to interesting conversations, different stories and fresh anecdotes and insights. The programme is broadcast live on Saturdays from 11.00 to 13.00 and can be received all over Europe on the short-wave band (49 metres, 5955).
