Friederike von Rauch - 90dagenrotterdam Archive

Exhibitions

From Tuesday 20 November 2007 until Friday 8 February 2008 - TUE > FRI | 11.00 > 18.00

deBuren, Leopoldstraat 6, 1000 Brussels

Last winter, deBuren presented the exhibition "90dagenbrussel" by the Berlin photographers Friederike von Rauch and Stefan Wolf Lucks. Successfully so: "90dagenbrussel" was proclaimed by De Morgen newspaper as 'exhibition of the week' and was awarded five stars.

This season, deBuren is extending its collaboration with Friederike von Rauch. Her photos of Berlin and Brussels suggested to us that Rotterdam would welcome an analogous view. On the invitation of deBuren, Von Rauch lived and worked in Rotterdam for three months. "90dagenrotterdam" shows you the result of her stay. At the opening of the exhibition, the Berlin publisher Hatje Cantz will present Von Rauch's photo book on Brussels. In 2008, the exhibition will move on to Rotterdam and in 2009 to Berlin.

Friederike von Rauch makes discrete photos. She powders the buildings like a delicate Japanese lady. A soft patina of grey shades becomes the foundation of buildings at rest. Buildings brought into view without the physical presence of people are buildings which are sleeping or dozing. Friederike von Rauch grants the city a rest, a moment of silence, a moment of reflection.
