Debate of the Month: The city of Europe Archive
With Job Cohen, Patrick Janssens and Gerd Leers
Wednesday 19 April 2006 - 20:00
debate in Dutch
deBuren, Leopoldstraat 6, 1000 Brussel
Three mayors, from two Dutch and one Flemish city consider how Europe manifests itself in their city. They talk about the complexity of biotopes in which people of different origin and backgrounds live together. Can one really compare a city like Maastricht with Amsterdam? Does a mayor of Antwerp inhabit the same Europe as a mayor in Lisbon or Vienna? Do they see the future of Europe as a network of cities or do they hold their own, different view?
Job Cohen (mayor of Amsterdam), Patrick Janssens (mayor of Antwerp) and Gerd Leers (mayor of Maastricht) debate the matter under the moderation of the Knack journalist Piet Piryns.
