Eric de Kuyper is a film director, film theorist and writer. He became known as a writer at the end of the eighties with his novels Aan zee and De hoed van tante Jeannot. A series of other books followed, most of them based on his childhood in Brussels.
In 1967, De Kuyper graduated from the RITS and started his career at what was then known as the BRT. During the eighties he directed several feature films - including Naughty Boys and A Strange Love Affair - and now publishes essays and articles on films, opera and literature. His passion for film took him to Amsterdam, where he was assistant curator of the Film Museum.
This autumn will see the publication of Eeuwig kind, in which De Kuyper wanders through several authors' childhood years as told in their autobiographies. In January 2008 the Flemish Opera will perform Luc Van Hove's La Strada, which has a libretto by De Kuyper.
