Wednesday 20 April 2005

deBuren, Leopoldstraat 6, 1000 Brussels

While the exhibition Een bouwmeester bouwt niet is on, the Flemish government architect's art unit will present two projects from the 'Art on Commission' programme. Here the Flemish government architect gives substance to one of the Flemish Government’s broader cultural responsibilities.

At the end of 2003 Els Dietvorst started a series of workshops for adolescents at ‘De Hutten’, which is a secure section of the De Kempen State Centre for Special Child Care in Mol. The results led to the publication of the book De Koningskinderen, and the making of a video-documentary which will also be shown. In his book Fatma of de Monumentenzorg Geert van Istendael goes on a literary walk through Brussels starting at the Martelaarsplein. The work was commissioned by Paul Van Grembergen who was a Flemish Minister at the time. Katrien Laenen, who is coordinator of the art unit, elucidates the ‘Art on Commission’ programme and talks about co-operation with the artists.
